This meaningful piece of jewellery was commissioned by a client who asked us to design a custom necklace for her best friend's Birthday. The birthday girl is Welsh and lives in Wales, while our client is from the North East of England. The brief was to design something symbolic integrating Wales and England.
Following on from a previous design incorporating a Scottish Thistle & English Rose, I took inspiration from the national flower emblems for Wales & England. Flowers traditionally hold so much history & meaning, making this the perfect theme to follow.
The rose was adopted as England's flower emblem during the Civil War, also known as the War of Roses and Tudor Rose, which is a combination of the red and white roses of Lancaster and York, adopted as a badge by Henry VII.
The Daffodil, the national flower of Wales is worn on St David's day and also known as Peter's Leek. The daffodil became popular in the 19th century, encouraged by David Lloyd-George.
After making a few design suggestions, we designed and handmade this beautiful necklace, incorporating a Welsh Daffodil and Wild English Rose entwined, representing friendship from England & Wales. The wild rose was careful handmade using several tiny hand pierced layers of sliver, which were then carefully shapes & curled to create individual rose petals, while the daffodil was handmade from two hand pierced layers and set with a claw set brilliant cut diamond.
As the demand for our bespoke service grows, it's a honor to design and hand make a unique, one-off item of jewellery to represent two best friends from England & Wales.
If you like the idea of a piece of jewellery designed & handmade just for you, maybe incorporating unworn gold & diamonds, just like above, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
