Here at LuLu & Charles Jewellery we specialise in handmade personalised jewellery and handmade bespoke jewellery to signify friendship, love, family & remembrance. We offer a range of services including a bespoke commission service, remodelling & refurbishment service, handmade wedding ring service. Alongside this we also offer a small scale production of our own in-house jewellery collection, designed & handmade from our County Durham workshop.
Our studio & small workshop is based in Consett, County Durham, where all our jewellery is individually handmade to order, produced from flat sheet milled metal or wire. Each individual component has been shaped and formed using a number of hand tools including pliers, files, gravers, piercing saws, hammers, doming blocks & punches. Using a gas torch each part is then carefully soldered together with small chips of solder and flux. Once fully soldered, the jewellery is quenched in water then sits in a small heated pickle pot, which cleans the metal. Each piece is polished at regular stages throughout the process, using assorted hand tools, emery sticks and finally the motorised polishing buff & mop to leave that final mirror finish.

Jayne is daughter of a classically trained and time served goldsmith and has grown up with jewellery all around her, gaining a sixth sense for what works and flows when it comes to design. Jayne has creativity pulsing through her veins, coming from a fashion and textile background. Her designs have been sold globally across the industry from high street to high fashion.
Ashley has worked in the Jewellery trade for over 15 years, originally employed by Jayne’s father, which is how the pair met and fell in love. Ashley has a keen and well trained eye for all aspects of jewellery design as well as a fabulous talent for being able to create something beautiful with technical efficiency.
Jayne and Ashley have three young sons and make jewellery magic from their wonderful home studio set in the beautiful rural area of Consett, County Durham. Jayne and Ashley started Lulu & Charles following the retirement of Jaynes father which resulted in the closure of his business (Christopher James Jewellers, Metro Centre, Gateshead) in the Summer of 2014. This seemed like an organic progression and a way to keep the legacy of the family business going.
Each piece of LuLu & Charles jewellery is lovingly handcrafted from ethically sourced material in Sterling Silver or Gold in the UK. LuLu & Charles Jewellery aim to deliver a completely personal bespoke service to each customer.
