The story behind our name: LuLu & Charles Jewellery

The story behind our name: LuLu & Charles Jewellery

For those of you who don’t know us in person, Ashley and I (Jayne) started Lulu & Charles following the retirement of my father which resulted in the closure of his business (Christopher James Jewellers, Metro Centre, Gateshead) in the Summer of 2014. This seemed like an organic progression and a way to keep the legacy of the family business alive.

We have three young sons and make jewellery magic from our studio and jewellers workshop in Consett, County Durham. Deciding on a business name wasn’t an easy decision, however with a little help from a good friend, we came up with the name “LuLu & Charles Jewellery”. Combining the names of our own children, seemed like the natural path to take, especially with the idea of creating unique handmade jewellery for mothers.  LuLu represents our eldest son Louie George & Charles represents our middle son Jude Charles.

Our logo was co-designed with local graphic designer Stephen Gibbs, we wanted the design to be representational of our story and just like our jewellery, a personal statement with symbolic meaning. The Anchor represents stability, hope and steadfastness, as our children are the Anchor in our lives.
